چکیده

This paper is a study of one-to-all and all-to-all data movement patterns on cycles and multi-dimensional toroidal meshes that use cut-through (e.g., circuit-switched, wormhole) routing with virtual channels. We present new cut-through algorithms for broadcasting, scattering, gossiping, and multi-scattering on cycles and multi-dimensional torus networks. Our algorithms use virtual channels to improve performance by controlled use of channel connicts. We compare our algorithms to the best known store-and-forward algorithms, cut-through algorithms, and lower bounds. In most cases, we conclude that cut-through routing is best when messages are \short" and store-and-forward routing is best for long messages. Some of our new algorithms outperform all known algorithms for all message lengths.

Path-Based Multicast Communication in Wormhole-Routed Unidirectional Torus Networks

This paper addresses the problem of one-to-many, or multicast, communication in wormhole-routed, n-dimensional torus networks. The proposed methods are designed for systems that support intermediate reception, which permits multi-destination messages to be pipelined through several nodes, depositing a copy at each node. A key issue in the design of such systems is the routing function, which mu...

Lower Bounds on Communication Loads and Optimal Placements in Torus Networks

ÐFully populated torus-connected networks, where every node has a processor attached, do not scale well since load on edges increases superlinearly with network size under heavy communication, resulting in a degradation in network throughput. In a partially populated network, processors occupy a subset of available nodes and a routing algorithm is specified among the processors placed. Analogou...

Link-Disjoint Broadcasting Algorithm in Wormhole-Routed 3D Petersen-Torus Networks

In a network, one-to-all broadcasting is the process of disseminating messages from a source node to all the nodes existing in the network through successive data transmissions between pairs of nodes. Broadcasting is the most primary communication process in a network. A 3D Petersen-Torus (3D PT) network has been proposed recently. the three-dimensionallymagnified Petersen-Torus topology, 3D PT...

A Broadcast Algorithm for All-Port Wormhole-Routed Torus Networks

A new approach to broadcast in wormhole-routed two-and three-dimensional torus networks is proposed. The approach extends the concept of dominating sets from graph theory by accounting for the relative distance-insensitivity of the wormhole routing switching strategy and by taking advantage of an all-port communication architecture. The resulting broadcast operation is based on a tree structure...

New Parallel Matrix Multiplication Algorithms for Wormhole-Routed All-Port 2D/3D Torus Networks

New matrix multiplication algorithms are proposed for massively parallel supercomputers with 2D/3D, all-port torus interconnection networks. The proposed algorithms are based on the traditional row-by-column multiplication matrix product model and employ a special routing pattern for better scalability. They compare favorably to the variants of Cannon’s and DNS algorithms since they allow matri...
